Calver Weir

November 2009

Calver Weir on the River Derwent in Derbyshire, is a 19th Century, Grade II listed monument . The 116m long weir holds back 3.5 metres of water, maintaining artificially high water levels; originally designed to provide water to power Calver Mill (now converted to housing).

In recent years a number of major breaches have occurred, which now threaten the stability of the structure. The Calver Weir Restoration Project will be funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage, the Environment Agency and the Peak District National Park. Donaldson Associates will work with the Tomlinson Group to :

  • Repair the weir using local stone
  • Protect the environmental, cultural and historical features of the river
  •  Install a fish pass
  • Improve pedestrian access
