Donaldson Associates has over 100 staff located across the country, with the Head Office in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire and regional offices in Glasgow, York, Derby and London. Each office has a wide spread of experience with civil and structural engineers, engineering geologists and geotechnical engineers. David Donaldson FICE

The Chairman of Donaldson Associates, David Donaldson founded the firm in 1987 after a 20 year career as a Contractor in the tunnelling sector. He is an experienced expert witness on tunnelling matters in arbitration and High Court proceedings and has been engaged as expert by various UK water companies to advise on technical and contractual matters. He gave expert evidence in a High Court dispute regarding the manufacture of tunnel boring machines for the Channel Tunnel Project. A specialist advisor to British Standards Institution and CEN committees drafting new safety standards for tunnelling his experience of tunnelling projects covers UK and Europe, Middle East and Far East.

Andrew Sloan BSc MSc CEng FICE MIMM

A Director of Donaldson Associates, Andy Sloan leads the Scottish Office and is also responsible for the geotechnical engineering output of the firm. He has over 20 years experience in the interpretation of geological data, design of tunnels, rock slopes, embankments and cuttings and supervision of site works. Andy is also a visiting Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. His key areas of expertise are as follows:

Kevin Paylor  BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering,  MICE

As Director and Manager of around 20 staff in DAL’s York office, Kevin Paylor is a chartered engineer with over 20 years’ construction industry experience, particularly in the railway sector, where he has worked extensively since 1998.  Kevin is also the Director Responsible for Environmental issues for DAL.  Other experience has been gained in the following areas:

• Project Management

• Delivery of multi-disciplined schemes in Rail and other sectors

• Design, detailing and construction of Railway works

• Financial Management, project programming and cost control
